This is my honest review of paperback versions of my children’s books printed via Kindle Direct Publishing or KDP, vs. the hard cover versions printed via IngramSpark.

For anyone looking for software training videos, I’m planning on uploading a lot more so check back soon.

For writers and authors, please let me know if this video was helpful. I’m planning on uploading a lot more videos to help other authors with the self publishing process.

Good to know about Amazon's POD books. Perhaps one way to deal with the white lines is to make sure you've got EXTRA bleed all four directions on every page.

Thank you for sharing! Really great info for first time authors as myself.

Hello thanks for making the video.

Did you manage to solve the white lines issue? I just got my proof with thin white line at the bottom on all the pages. I included a 3mm bleed on all sides as they asked for.

The cover was fine but seems they had shifted the interior images up too far up so I lost a bit too much image from the top edge and the bottom edge of the image was visible with a white gap at the bottom.

I got in touch with them asking if I should add more bleed and they said I should try that so I am doing a 5mm bleed and seeing if that helps. I guess with print on demand perhaps things get shifted more than what a 3mm bleed allows for?

Hi, Amelia. Thanks for sharing! I had issues with KDP as well. Apparently they hire companies to print out those books. Some of the copies are just lousy and miserable. It's too hard to compete with the big publishing houses out there when you are an indie and, to top it off, your readers get lousy copies.

Hi Amelia, this is useful. However I am surprised to see the shine on the output from KDP on the inside pages, we just bought a book printed by KDP and the output was very much dull ! And almost matte finish. KDP does not give any option of inside paper quality .. is it an issue of the where it got printed ?

Thank you so much for sharing! Very useful video. Did you publish the paperback and hardcopy at the same time, or does it need to be in an certain order? (I know I need a separate ISBN for each). I am thinking now after seeing yours to just do a hardcopy.

The mysterious white line happens all the time for me from both companies. It's because it's a full bleed (my other books aren't). There's no reason or excuse for it I've found and no one can tell me why it happens b/c my file has the image WAY outside the bleed parameters.

I’m getting that same white line on my Ingram sparks books! 😢

What is the biggest size hardcover I can make on kdp and what are the minimum amount of pages required for a children's picture book like yours? Thank you

I would love to use Ingramspark solely for the hardback copy. Kids can be rough, so I think it would last longer.
I will definitely save some money and try that out, but for now, KDP is my option.

is it 70 or 100 for the paper for the book in hard cover?

Thank you for your video. It helped. Do you get more orders on paper back or hardcover ?

This video was really helpful. I am wanting to do the same with publishing but don’t have a clue where to start. Do you have any more info about how you used ‘word’ to design your book? I would love to know how to do it x

Thanks for the great video! Great to be able to compare the two. I'm also thinking of doing a picture book but can't do it through KDP because my size is US letter (landscape). What do you think of doing picture books as ebooks? I've heard stories about how easily people can copy the illustrations digitally so I'm a little hesitant. Do you think it is worth it to go through Ingram to do a print version to list on Amazon?

Hi Amelia, thanks for this video as it was very helpful! My Ingram hardcover book pages look very washed out in color. I'm curious to know if it's simply bc my color palette is light therefore not showing up properly OR if I'm somehow exporting it incorrectly from Indesign. Have you run into anything like this in printing any of your books?

Hello, I wanted to ask about your experience promoting the book. I just wrote my first book and have not published yet on KDP but would like to know about sales.

Is this hardcover from ingram on premium paper with premium color or premium paper with standard color? Thank you in advance!

Thank you for this. Can you give some tips on copyright?

Thanks for sharing! the quality of KDP appears better. Can't KDP replace the books with the white marks at the edges since its a printing error?

Hi, thanks for sharing, what is the paper size and pages of your book? It has a spin and seems like it doesn't fully open up.
