This lecture is the first in a two-part series introducing the topic of seismic hazard analysis. Deterministic seismic hazard analysis (DSHA) and probabilistic seismic hazard analysis (PSHA) are introduced. DSHA is discussed and demonstrated. Basic principles of probability theory are reviewed. Spatial variability is discussed and demonstrated.

It's very helpful. I appreciate it. Thank you. Helped me prepare for a seismic hazard analysis class which I will interpret soon.

23:54 - If we have continuous random variable x (like we do), the probability of the exact value for x=x1 is 0 right? The probability is calculated by taking the integral of PDF, and integral from x1 to x1 is zero. We need to consider a finite interval in the domain so we could get a value between 0 and 1 for the probability.
