What does Lao American food look like to you? This question often crosses my mind as I continue my journey in understanding and exploring Lao cuisine, especially in the diaspora around the world. I've met amazing Lao cooks globally who are continually evolving their interpretation of Lao food. This new series aims to expand my understanding of what Lao food, particularly Lao American food, means to me.

In part one, I explore stuffed zucchini flowers with Lao sausage, covered in sticky rice tempura.

How do you say "zucchini flower" in Lao? For now, I'll call it "oua dok mai" for simplicity. What Lao American dishes have you made or learned from others?

Not Lao but this reminded me I haven't eaten stuffed deep-fried squash blossoms for some time.

As a 2nd gen Lao-American, I really appreciate you posting these vids and recipes. My parents never taught me how to make any of this and some days I really miss my home and family. Learning how to make Lao food for myself through your vids lets me get a taste of home and relive some nostalgia. Thanks for the recipes, you got a sub for life!

Make Lao Lao!!! I’ve got pictures of me doing a recovery from WWII. I never learned how but I truly loved it and the fact they would float beer on it
