LIVING on GREEK STREET FOOD for 24 HOURS (Thessaloniki's Cheapest Street Food) 🇬🇷

◼︎Today I'm trying Greek food for the first time in Thessaloniki. It is one of the best street foods in Europe and one of the world's cheapest street foods. I started with a fantastic meat Bougatsa at the recommended Anoteron Bougatsa restaurant. I had that with the Ariani yogurt which was too good.
Then for lunch, I went to another recommended restaurant called Edessaiko. At this restaurant I didn't know what to get, I wanted them to surprise me. The chef recommended the lasagna-like meal called Pastitsio with rice and lemon sauce.
For dinner, I went to a normal gyro restaurant for a pork gyro. amazing as well.

Breakfast - Anoteron Bougatsa, Ag. Dimitriou 68, Thessaloniki 546 31, Greece

Lunch - Edessaiko, Ag. Dimitriou 140, Thessaloniki 546 35, Greece (had Greek pastitsio)

Dinner - Asterik - Oλυμπιαδοσ 2, Thessaloniki 546 32

Sorry dude, but the guy at "Edesaikon" misled you. Pastitsio is never combined with rice or potatoes or anything like that. It is a meal of its own with enough carbohydrate from the pasta (thick macaroni) and bechamel sauce (butter and flour and milk) A greek salad or green salad would be enough.

I laughed a lot with the Bougatsa shop guy as he was talking about a "chick" as you were eating lol. Giving Pastitsio with Rice was a foul move for me. Maybe they misunderstood when you asked "whats in it". They prolly thought what you could combine it with. Pastitsio is a course by itself. ♥ from Greece

Studied and lived in Thessaloniki for about 10 years. Edessaikon (the place where you had the pastitsio) fed me for most of those 10 years. Amazing place, notoriously grumpy owner but the food was both cheap and of great quality. Thanks for the video, it sure brought me back.

Edit: Edessaikon isn't really a restaurant. It's an eatery, a cookery, intended for workers & students to have a home cooked meal during their lunch-break instead of a snack. Hence the low price and relatively simple portion.

"Edesaikon" is under my house. Im literaly living 3 floors up from where you were standing. The guys in the comments that say Pastitsio is not combined with "this and that" are correct, but keep in mind, the neihborhood is very close the university and is packed with students that want cheap food, as tasty as possible, in LARGE quantities. So the guys at Edesaikon might have 6-7 main course choices and 4-5 garnishes like potatoes/rice etc, and they let you combine that every way you want. So that's what all that was about. Not a usual combination for Greek cousine for sure.
PS: the current prices for gyro are generaly ridiculous (3.50-3.80), when it used to be like 2euro, 5-6 years ago, but this guy at "Asterix" charging you 4.10 (or 4.50, im not sure) blew my mind. I guess im never having any food from that place, ever.

A friendly suggestion . Next time when you get gyros add these veggies . Just the addition of tomato makes the whole thing more juicy and blends really well with pork and tzatziki ;)

That "aw" when you had that first bite of pastitsio, the fact that you cleared your plate (and it was a huge serving), and the way you appreciated and loved our food, makes me wanna cook for you so badly! Greetings and love from Crete!! 💜💜
