Here it is! I'm really happy with this one, more than even the first one.
Unfortunately, I think I have to take a break from Half-Life for now, as I'm kinda burning out on it and especially these types of videos. I will make more of them in the future I think, just not now. Next week's video will be about Half-Life again, but it's another "One Perfect Enemy"-episode. So, do look forward to that :)

I always found the English version of Otis to be kinda endearing. It's like if a midwestern dad was taking you on a fishing trip and then shooting you for 60 damage because an alien was behind you

1:35 Corpses fading out is a flag that can be set on any character in the games independent of the German censorship, and Blue Shift has many enemies set to fade out by default as a performance optimization originating from its Dreamcast roots that wasn't changed in the PC version. Regular corpses are also seen disappearing in Half-Life and Opposing Force, but this is primarily relegated to ones appearing in large and open areas that were considered performance intensive for the time.

Kinda interesting, the reason why they translated "Barnacles" to "Muschelwesen" at 18:50 is probably because they translated the word Barnacle directly. A barnacle is an animal which grows on the underside of boats and other surfaces which are submerged. I guess they didn't bother to just come up with a unique name for the alien in German

1:38 The corpses fade out in the american release as well. It's a flag you can apply to any monster(NPC) in the game. I map for Half-Life 1, so I know this for a fact.

Did you notice that no matter what language the character speaks, the facial-rig tries to follow it? And damn it does a pretty job! The Goldsource engine still amazes me to this day!

Ich liebe dich Peter.
You are truly an inspiration for me as a fellow german youtuber.
The type of videos you make, and especially the high quality of editing and writing is exactly what i aspire to create.

Mach weiter so!

There was a way to unlock the blood in the German version of both Half-Life and Blue Shift, but the soldiers still were robots. Instead of guts and bones gears were flying everywhere

+1 for a Half-Life 2+Episodes video. I've enjoyed the series so far and it has been fascinating seeing/hearing the differences

The reason why Blue-Shift has the Grunts English, is because in the original German Half-Life, they modified the sentences.txt file to remove all the Grunt lines, but in Blue-Shift, they forgot to change the sentences.txt file. They also forgot to change the violence.cfg file.

In Blue Shift, they we're lazy about making special script sentences for the german and french language, so thats why the hecu and vox speak english. And also i guess we'll never get a German quirks of Decay. Sad. But okay. Im excited to see german quirks of half life 2.

Yes! I defintely want an Otis game where he fights for the resistance and gets people through it thanks to his untarnished kindness and marksmanship.

I'm definitely interested in a video about Half-Life 2. I always knew the HECU soldiers were replaced by robots in the German version, but seeing what exactly the changes were and how ridiculous it all really is is something I didn't know I needed.

I definitely think that a video on German HL2+E would be really interesting to see.

vox and hecu lines are weird because they work differently to every other voice line, all their lines are stored as individual words that are played one at a time in game in hl1. In the original german version and in some parts here they seem to have taken the scripts from the game data and read them verbatim like you would any other voice line, but for some reason just couldnt be bothered to do it here the entire time, so you get weird instances where during some scripted sequences the HECU use entirely scripted lines and then the entire rest of the time they use the completely different sounding original lines.

would love to see hl2
