This Classic Song is Cursed... (Drowning Lessons)

Personally the way I interpreted Drowning Lessons is that the narrator and his lover were going to get married, but she died. The lyric “imaginary wedding gown, that you can’t wear in front of me” sounded like him stating that now he was never gonna get to see her in her wedding dress due to her death. And of course the “we’ll say goodbye, the hundredth time” part is stated twice, symbolizing (in my opinion) him constantly thinking about her death and not being able o let it go, “tomorrow we’ll do it again” meaning every day is the same thing, he wakes up depressed about his wife and thinks about her 24/7. I interpreted the second verse (“i dragged her down, I put her out, and back there I left her were no one could see”) as him burying his wife. And then, the part where it goes “these hands, stained red, from the times that I’ve killed you and then”, I thought of it as the narrator going insane from constantly thinking about his lovers death (plus drugs perhaps) and thinking that HE killed her when he didn’t. At the end, it keeps repeating “without a sound, without a sound, and I wish you away”, which I interpret as the narrator wishing himself away? (If that makes sense). So basically I think at the end of the song he commits suic*de, causing the music to stop for a moment, and then he gets to be with his lover in the afterlife, hence the more upbeat, glimpse-of-hope kind of music at the very end which eventually fades out.

I'm crying? drowning lessons is my favorite song in the world, nothing can change that because, somehow it touches me for the lyrics, the instrumental and the possible story... your video made it even more specific and tragic, I just feel vulnerable after this, my sincere congratulations

As someone who had based their entire personality on this album in middle school, it’s amazing to see someone else analyze it. I can also relate to a lot of things you said at the end of the video. Seeing MCR live after all these years has brought me an incredible sense of closure I never thought I would get after so many years of struggling with my mental health. Especially as they played Heaven Help Us, which is still one of my favorite songs and means so much to me. The only way I can describe this feeling is like a gut punch from hope itself.
Well anyway, sorry for rambling. I really loved your video and analysis, can’t wait for more content from you!

Went to see MCR just over a month ago and it may just have been the greatest moment of my young life. I also just wanna throw out there Imagine Dragons has a really similar song called I Wish You Well that they never play live (aside from one time many years ago) and hasn’t even been released in full.

Their song "Cancer." has always made me cry and stay up for long hours at a time for how raw and harsh it is. Because that this song (Cancer) is meant to show the more tragic side of people who sadly don't make it from their long battle of something that kills them from the inside out.

This song honestly makes me think about how it would be the kind of music I would listen to. Since I mainly liaten to bands like Three Days Grace, Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Bring Me The Horizon, Seether, Saint Asonia, Starset, and even Five Finger Death Punch. I would love to see more videos about rock bands and even more creepy/interesting media.

The ending is my favorite too. I never liked this song when i first heard it in 2022, but a few days after i heard it, i woke up with it playing in my head, and i was just depressed for no reason, it was my favorite song since than.
