By the time the crew of Delta Airlines Flight 191 reached the threshold of Dallas Fort Worth Airport, they’d already diverted around 2 separate storms. They see rain and lightning up ahead, but fly on. Inside the storm, their plane is hit by powerful winds that slam the plane to the ground.

What caused Delta 191 to crash?

Mayday: Air Disaster - From Season 5 Episode 1 "Invisible Killer": Two of Delta’s most experienced pilots are at the controls of the L-1011 Tristar, billed as one of the safest planes in the sky. The crew sees rain and lightning ahead, but decide to continue their approach. Once inside the storm the crew quickly discovers that the driving rain will be the least of their problems.

Mayday: Air Disaster is a dramatic non-fiction series that investigates high-profile air disasters to uncover how and why they happened. Mayday: Air Disaster follows survivors, family members of crash victims and transportation safety investigators as they piece together the evidence of the causes of major accidents. My dad was driving on 114 that same day. We realized later that he was just a few minutes ahead of the guy that got hit by the plane. This was such a tragedy for everyone.

I flew into Dallas on a Delta L1011 a few days after this. The crash sight was visible as we landed. That was very creepy.

I was on a Delta Tri-star that year flying from DFW Airport 🛫. It was my first time flying alone as a little child. I loved it. We had clear skies. It was July 1985. I was on summer break flying to visit relatives. Now, when I was 8 years old. My whole family was on a 737 that got struck by lightning 🌩. Nothing happened other than spots in my eyes since it got near my window seat. The plane and pilots did their jobs well. I'm glad I survived the 1980s. 😂

20:30 It is amazing that they can look at the pieces of an airplane and say "we looked, but everything was fine with this plane".

Oh, y'all calm down now. This was a very huge crash. Very sensational. The microburst thing was largely unknown. Of course this would be uploaded again.

13:20 "It got dead silence" not a good thing to say when you are talking about a plane crashing

I do NOT want new crashes so Mayday produces new episodes. Smaller Youtube channels have new stories about lesser known events.
MayDay has been on for years! They CAN release NEW programs!

And now many automobiles and other ground vehicles have forward-looking radar for cruise control, forward-looking cameras, laser systems (lidar), and side radar or cameras. All to make cars safer. (Though these systems aren't designed to avoid weather.)

Ok i stand corrected. It wasn't the wake vortices of the leer jet. But a micro burst VERY deadly especially back then when little was known about them. I don't care if it was an A380 those bursts can take down anything when they hit. Their like mini hurricanes for a very brief period.

Always sit in the middle seat rear. Hopefully, they hit the jackpot.

Best first class meal I ever ate was on a Delta L-1011 TriStar from LAX-ATL. The filet mignon was literally fork tender. Of course 9/11 happened and fucked up the entire world, but I will never forget that flight or that meal. 😊

The guy in the thumbnail looks like somebody spliced Mr. Bean and Tom Cruise together.
