The NASA space capsule carrying asteroid samples has landed back on Earth in Utah.

ANU Astrophysicist and Cosmologist Brad Tucker sat with Sky News host Caleb Bond to discuss how the capsule containing asteroid samples could help scientists figure out how the Earth was formed.

“A lot of this is what ingredients were present 4.5-4 billion years ago,” he told Mr Bond.

“Earth, Venus, all these places have changed a lot in that time, asteroids remained these kind of frozen capsules in time, the stuff that went into our universe or solar system has pretty much stayed there.

“So if we see the abundance of rocks, the ratios – are there amino acids, are there other things on this asteroid – that can then tell us what stuff was present in those ratios when our own Earth was formed.”
