UCL IRDR Annual Conference 2021: Why Warnings Matter - Keynote with Mami Mizutori, UNDRR

In this keynote, Mami Mizutori, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General (SRSG) for Disaster Risk Reduction, and Head of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), explains why warnings matter and officially launches the UCL Warning Research Centre.

The UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction welcomed researchers, students, practitioners, policymakers, the media and the general public to a day of thought-provoking discussions on why warnings matter, and how we can do better at warnings both prior and during crises for all hazard types. The sessions explored multi-dimensional aspects of warnings, considering their physical, social, economic, environmental, institutional, political, cultural and gendered dimensions, and the challenges involved in making warnings successful to mitigate against losses. The event also launched the UCL Warning Research Centre. #IRDR11
