I'm playing with the Mate version at moment.... So far, very polished. For a Beta, it's remarkably smooth.
It matters to me because my host system & daily driver is Mint 18.1 Mate, and the "test" is more or less a formality, because unless something very left-field happens, then I'm going to run the upgrade on my host when that gets announced. All I am really doing is having an early peek at the next version...
So far, I have seen one "bug" which involved the installer, not the OS, and it was very minor and trivial and not of any consequence. It's mostly a question of the 'bling' they show while you wait for the install process. If that's the worst thing it ever does to me, then I'll be a very happy old man.

On KDE Neon, to disable the auto-sort on the desktop, just right click on the desktop > configure desktop > icons > uncheck "Lock in place"

Correction: MX-16 is NOT Ubuntu based. It's based off of Debian Jessie stable.

Hi Tom, linux mint cinnamon from 18 has never shipped with mint y by default, it was new and made available, always shipped with mint x.

Will this cinnamon desktop actually support amdgpu-pro and the rx480?

Tom I loved this video plus Tom there is an application by the name of Ubuntu Kernel Upgrade Utility most people like it better then the Linux Mint kernel tool as for me I usually do not uograde the kernel as I just use the kernel that comes with the Linux Mint although I could upgrade but it just one of those things kernels and registries I stay as my theory is "If it is not broken and everything works do not touch it" so just letting you know also there is another application by the name gtkhash allows you to calculate checksum of a ISO image of a distro for example to verify the integrity of it so just sharing it with you :)

Looking forward to 18.2 XFCE. 18.1 keeps resetting my clock four time zones to the west. Makes it impossible to keep recently modified files in proper order with my other machines. Neither Cinnamon nor Mate shows that anomaly. Deal me in for an 18.2 Mate preview, Tom.

Not likely to get Google Earth to run unless you can get Oracle JDK 7 to run.

But unfortunately it isn't anymore.
For the folders and icons someone already answered your question !
If you like KDE, you'll like KRevenge: the latest KDE, the latest kernel 4.11.3, the AUR (much better than the PPA's) and the new script made by Jody James, the developer, that takes care of packages that might break the system. If you need help in Arch I'll be your man but Jody is extremely helpful and you can go to Sudo Reboot live streams and you'll always find someone to help you in Arch !
Best regards,
Serge

All changes here are like no changes. The default theme is still ugly as shit, no new functionality, cinnamon is resources heavy. Is updating packages here and there worth calling distro upgrade? Where progress is? Desktop icons grid? That should be available right from the beginning. Seriously, after years of using linux I am sick and tired: all distros except RHEL and Ubuntu server (!) reinvent the wheel and do not bring anything new or better over other OS's.
