Funny thing is the Trump administration pulled the same tactic.
In 2018 we were 3% GDP for the year.
In 2019 we were at 2.2% for the year.
In 2020 we were at negative 6.5%.

A recession is defined as a contraction in economic growth lasting two quarters or more as measured by the gross domestic product (GDP).
That's it. We've been using this definition since forever.
