"I know this: if life is an illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.” -Conan

From my current playthrough: "The argossian builder in our base always talks about the time undreamed of... He built a tower on a spider infested island on the eastern rim to solve the riddle of this land, where sun moon and shadows don't align. He found that there are even stars below the horizon. He and the other magic and science guys hope to find a way to lift the curse and free everybody. I doubt that." ;)

E, when you start a Siptah playthrough ....the Narrator says "on your way to the Exiled lands." I've seen maps of Hyborian Age with Isle of Siptah. I also don't think it's a Howard creation but a Funcom addition to not step on his works. Exiled lands I believe it is Ancient like Atlantis and Lemuria.... once a part of the great Priestkings domain (Hyperborians) that was hidden from men due to the Giant grey men seeing the increase in human threat. I think Conan saves you in the desert because he found a way in. Such an under-utilized piece of Lore. The game had so much in potential storytelling.

I guess that would explain the bracelet that keeps us here and when we take it off.. we 'wake up?'

"What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger", since we often die to some stupid shit and come back to life, the exile lands can be nightmare and dream at the same time lol

Conan, Kurak, and The Stygian Army are outsiders who wanted to cross into The Exiled Lands. Most of the people in The Hyborian Age would rather not visit.

When you die in Exile Lands, no matter what you have on you, you don't stay dead! You awake again in your starting loincloth. just like after dreaming in a real word. When you awake you are in your own bed just in briefs. when you start dreaming again you get your possessions and dream continuing.

I could be wrong, but isn't the midnight grove a dream we enter using the potion and exiting through a portal? If you cannot dream within a dream, we shouldn't be albe to enter the midnight grove from the exiled lands.

Not only are you a god at building, your lore videos are so well done! I wonder if since the giant kings were here before the humans. Did they have any part in shaping the exiled lands? or did they simply move into the region where something else ruled before them?

Lovecraft’s Dreamland stories are, in my opinion, among his best. Extending it to Conan isn’t much of a stretch since the setting is closer to the Hyborian Age rather than the turn of the 20th century New England setting that host most of Lovecraft’s stories.

We aren't dreaming, we're IN the dream.

The Khitan Exiled Captain from the headhunter event says: "And though we have crossed the length and breadth of this hellish plane, a way out remains elusive." So at least from this character, we have explicit confirmation that the Exiled Lands exist on another plane.

Was it originally intended? Probably not. It wouldn't be Funcom if anything was consistent. But it seems to be the way that the game's current writers are leaning.

If we are to assume the Exiled lands are attached to the Dreamlands, then that goes some way to explain the state of deathlessness we find ourselves in and the wackiness of sorcery therein, but I feel the more interesting question becomes *has it always been part of the dreamlands?* it’s certainly within The Giant Kings or Toth Amons power to fold reality into the dreaming, undoubtedly made easier by the ghost wall providing a set boundary, and it would serve both of their purposes: isolation. Dunno, just a thought

Its a magical cursed land that only a few people know the location to and is used as a prison that is not meant to be escaped from. The curse being you cant die, but you cant leave either.

Always wondered why there are no human children. Do the exiles become infertile in the Exiled Lands?

someone at Funcom is a bethesda fan.. the Elder scroll are speculated that chim is akin to those dreams you can control and fallout 4 made the player question if they are synth or not in the far harbor dlc by asking the childhood question. But I would say that the ghost fence COULD be the barrier itself. Some of the Witch-Queen lorestone mention that all of sudden, a lush jungle appeared into the distance. That always gave me the same vibe as the amazon island in DC and Pandaria in WoW(before the xpac, it was covered in impossible to traverse mist). We know the Giant Kings were incredibly advanced in terms of sorcery, wouldnt be too far fetch to think they could take a chunk of the existing world and yeet it away to another dimension using the ghost fence. Its been there long before the lemurian landed on their shores.

@3:22 I covered #1 in the previous comment, on two, I am fairly certain (and being meta :p) that we get 3 crimes in character when we make a new character, plus a lot of dialogue NPCs with bracelets, recount memories from outside the exiled... I will refrain from #3, since I am neither certain how it is interpreted, nor what it is exactly referring too yet.

I always theorized the Exiled lands were some sort of cast-off realm created by one of the Elder beings from the Outer Dark, or some powerful sorcerer in service to those entities.

For me the exiled lands were somewhere between khitai and hyrkania. The large desert to the south and west; past the ghost fence suggests there's a vast amount of land. We know that the desert itself is artificial and magically created. And before that time they would have been as lush and green as the eastern coast.

The fact that the coast was inhabited by Lemurians gives us more clues. hyrkania which would be modern Mongolia/Russia would have snow and pines. (Though I honestly believe the pines and snow were just there give us a different biome). Though it is rather far from stygia. Makes sense they would send boats.
