Properties of magnet-
1.Attractive property.
2. Directive property(freely suspended).
3. Like poles repel unlike poles attract.
4. Magnetic poles always exist in pairs.(monopoles do not exist)
Toroid magnet don't have any pole that have zero pole but have magnetic field.
Triple exist (defective magnetisation)
5.Magnetic induction(magnetism induce by magnetic material)
6. Magnetic length(distance between two poles.
Magnetic field lines.
Properties of lines of magnet
1. Form closed loop.
2. Never intersect.
3. Lines of force have a tendency to contract.
4.strength max. at poles.
5. These are not magnetic line of force.force is perpendicular to magnetic field
*Bar magnet as a equivalent solenoid
1.Suspended freely
2. North south attract and same pole repel also in solenoid.
3. Magnetic field lines from north to south outside and south to north inside.
4. Axial mag. Field is same as of bar magnet.
* Magnetic moment = m.l.m is pole strength and l is distance between north and south pole.
*Dipole in uniform field
1. Torque=MB sin theeta
2. Potential energy
U= -MB cos theeta
3. Work done in rotating theeta 1 to theeta 2
W= MB(cos theeta 1 - cos theeta 2)
* Electrostatic analog.
* Guass law in magnetism.
