I can recommend to everyone the book "The Conquerers" from Roger Crowly. You won't believe how brave, feisty, ambitious and above all audacious ( and cheeky) those Portuguese were. A poor little folk of 1 million made it around the world to China and Japan.

Ludi got a unique EU4 idea for you using the custom nation max points mod make the most OP custom nation and place them anywhere in the world you want. Then choosing any other nation in the world you want you must take down your OP created nation but you must give the OP nation until Age of reformation before you can fight them.

hey ludi just wanna say that as someone that has played multiple campaigns rushing the indian ocean as portugal its actually much less efficient to go to carribean. spain will either way go there and funnel trade to sevilla which helps you plus colonizing the carribean might lock spain out of their mexico mt which you also want them to complete so they can funnel mexico trade to sevilla. brazil is also a waste of time as you can just wait until natives have 5 coastal provinces and then just conquer them.first colonist goes cape verde and the moment it reaches you have spynetwork and claim ready in jolof. jolof gets your second colonist to saint thoma which allows you to conquer nigerian coast and congo, then you go to one province below congo, cape and by that time you get to attack kilwa with claims from mission tree. by the end of the kilwa war cape usually finishes allowing you to grab the province in between kilwa and madagascar for another mission and when kilwa finishes coring you get range for coring goa. if you rush all this you wil probably fight kilwa before they get tech 4 and after goa you can fight vij usually because its hard for hindus to get allies. 2 mil tech difference vs vij most likely. all of this can happen before 1500 without even pushing your nation that hard or tryharding too much and after the vij war you will have around 20 ducats going from ivory coast to sevilla which also buffs your spain so they can pull their own weight and get even more trade into sevilla

In my best Portuguese run, Castile was nearly wiped out early game so I had almost the entire new world for myself. Brazil, La Plata, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Portugal is absolutely goated and easy for beginners. I got Brazil and then focused on the indies, africa, asia. 234 ducats a month(not counting gold ships from portugal) by 1640.
I made friends with castile so I had someone to help if any major powers tried me. I owned the seas, capturing the english flag ship
