The Role of Hope in Holy Week

There are many great ways to describe hope, but Fr. Mike defines it as “trust in another extended into the future.” He recalls two stories from the Gospels that exemplify what hope is not. When Peter denied Christ, and when the two travelers on the road to Emmaus abandoned their hope in Christ.

Peter had Jesus (they were basically best friends), but—by denying him—was essentially saying he didn’t need Jesus.

The travelers needed Jesus, but the way they saw it they no longer had him.

Fr. Mike explains how hope is knowing that we have Jesus and knowing that we need him. This hope can empower us to courageously get through our darkest hours.

Wow, that moved me to tears. Thank you for those insights, Fr. Mike!
Many around the world have been stunned by the Notre Dame fire, but even in the midst of such a terrible event, several wonderful and miraculous (IMHO) things occurred: 1. All three of the huge stained glass Rose Windows were saved, 2. the giant organ with 8000 pipes was saved, and 3. there were 400 fireman who coordinated with the people in charge of the church to execute a plan to save the relics and other treasures of the church, and it worked. I am sure there are others.
I believe that even in the darkest of times, God provides hope, and I agree that we also have to take action to activate that Hope. And, to remember that God's ways are not our ways, and Hope may be or appear to be absent, but, if we continue to trust, it will manifest.

I was just thinking at the beginning of the holy week how many times i failed loving christ and giving my life to him and i was considering giving up to the fact that repentence is just not for me but how merciful god is !! he sends me this video at the right time.
