For voice quality tests frequency analysis is used extensively as a way to break a complex voice signal down in to components more easily understood by engineers.

Since many different frequency analysis techniques are available it is important to have a general understanding of each technique and how it works. This web seminar introduces the basic frequency analysis techniques used for voice quality testing. Topics to be covered include terminology used in frequency analysis, differences between simple RMS and Active Speech Level per ITU P.56, 1/n octave and FFT analysis and hearing models such as Zwicker Loudness and Relative Approach.
