I love how Joy doesn’t try to completely shut down Anxiety like she tries to do to sadness in the first movie. I’m really glad they didn’t just reiterate a lesson she already learned like some other Pixar sequels

I loved that all anxiety's memories were conditionals - "IF i am ___, i will be happy"- and it spiralling into "i am not good enough" it felt like a gut punch.

I actually really enjoy this take on envy — jealous, sure, but also constantly admiring and relating to others. It feels like reinforcement of the first movie’s lesson that all emotions have the POTENTIAL to be useful. But…yeah, she’s childish.

As a college student filled with anxiety about, everything I really needed this movie, Joy desperately looking for something to prove anxiety wrong in the pile of bad memories destroyed me

I cried when Anxiety said "all I wanted was to protect Riley"

Yeah, it funny because when I was watching it in theatres, there were more adults than kids, and a bunch of teenagers. It may be less impactful but it does have a really good message for teenagers.
Especially if they play hockey lol

I thought the new movie wasn’t as strong, but they portrayed a panic attack PERFECTLY. I love the fact that they made anxiety just take over the entirety of headquarters, bc that’s exactly what it’s like irl. I loved the humor, it felt like it was definitely geared towards teenagers. I do wish envy felt more like the other emotions do, bc each emotion is a super strong portrayal of themselves, whereas envy in the movie kinda just feels like a character that’s there, she doesn’t feel like an emotion in the film at all. All in all though I loved the film, and I’m glad they made a second one.

Just want to point out that in the hockey arena, all the seats and everything is orange, which I feel is intentional and symbolising anxiety and that anxiety is in control.

"There's no scene that will emotionally gut you"

Eh, the final conflict is far better than the bing bong scene imo. Had me crying for a straight hour.

(SPOILERS)

I honestly loved angers moments in this film, because it’s more than oh I’m so angry all the time and more like—especially when joy breaks down, he steps in and helps her get on her feet again, in his own anger way of course. And I kind of love how sadness this time, didn’t stick with joy. It gave the other three emotions more time to really get to know them, the characters that we didn’t know, more time to really shine I guess?

And joys moment, frantically looking for a good memory among the bad to prove anxiety wrong, was done amazingly. And the way the finale handled anxiety the way the found to really get anxiety to calm down was actually really amazingly done. And Rileys panic attack at the end was so good. And I love how they ended the movie and how Riley’s whole sense of self was at then end. She’s not a good person, but she’s not bad either. She’s just, Riley. And that’s enough. And the ending kinda reflects that. We don’t see if she made it to the team because she’s enough.

Either way, great movie Pixar.

There was great logic when Riley's sense of self was carefully curated by her emotions, only for Anxiety to attempt some modifications which didn't go as planned, and for Anxiety's actions to directly lead to the deep, repressed memories and emotions flooding in all at once.

Other than that, the dark secrets are my favorite characters by far.

Uhm, excuse me, the "I'm not good enough" scene shook me to my fucking core 💀💔

I was literally SOBBING.

Tbh as a teenager, I find this movie way more impactful than the first one. Because as a kid I was never forced to moved far from my hometown, and while I did have imaginary friends as a little kid. Those imaginary friends were just characters from the lion king because at the time I was obsessed with that movie, so the whole moving away from your hometown to a new state and having to make new friends (I mean I have been forced to make new friends but not for that reason) along with forgetting about you’re old imaginary friend never really was relatable to me, and throughout my childhood (also because girls get puberty way sooner than boys do, which meant I was a sarcastic menace at 9 years old) I was never pushed by my parents to try to be happy when dealing with any sort of change in my life. But inside out 2 hit way harder for me because I’m literally it’s main target demographic, so the whole panic attack thing hit very hard, as someone who regularly has had to struggle with anxiety, since I was in the 6th grade. The best part besides the panick attack though are the jokes, especially as someone who both likes Pokémon and bluey.

Unpopular Opinion: Bing Bong’s death isn’t as emotional as everyone says. Riley coming home after walking off was way more emotional.

Edit: Holy fking shit, why are some many people liking this (thanks tho)

this movie was actually hilarious, like I giggled to myself way too many times while my friends side-eyed me lmao
"oh no its a sarchasm" "we're suppressed emotions" etc.
so. good.

9:45 My personal head cannon is that Joy sending the bad memories to the back of the mind is what created the new emotions and the puberty alarm summoned them to headquarters

0:38 The next step is Inside Out 3 where we see one of the emotion's brain

The panic attack scene was so intense for me.. it gaves me nearly also a panic attack ^^ ' I wonder if somebody had the same feeling in this moment

I think a lot comes down to pacing. If they had at least 15 more minutes I think we could have fleshed out more of Riley struggling with puberty, as well as more time spent with the new emotions. The opening definitely needed more time to let things breathe.

But ultimately it stuck the landing so I call it a success.
