Game Trayz needs to realize their value is in quality storage that helps with set up. Trays like they did for the OG Endeavor were great. Keep it simple, compact, and nearly hidden. Please don't decorate with plastic or take up extra space.

We felt the medium length game gives you more opportunities to trigger your modules, so that makes getting modules stronger. The short game can end with only one or two return to station turns.

I agree with the player trays, I use them for storage but I don't use them for play. I set up the game and realized that they were going to take up more space and didn't really add anything so I put them right back in the box. Learning how to set this game up efficiently and store it efficiently is probably more difficult than actually playing it.

Glad I backed this one. Taught my 7 9 11yr old kids thru there first playthru and they quickly grasped the mechanics and had an epic space adventure and interaction. In the end - the 9 won with his supremacy dominance. Agree - setup and take down can be a tedious but game flow is quick and smooth.

First game we played took about 1.5 hrs per player including teach. Second game was 50 minutes per player because we did have to look up a few clarifications on modules. I'll be interested in seeing how fast this gets after a few more plays

I bought the standard edition of the game and love it. It would be nice to have the option to buy the development buildings separately, having a specific "home" for the leaders is better for gameplay rather than having to just take them off the board and store them.

I already got rid of dwellings. Thats how much I liked this more. I also think its objectively better in every way. However, im sure some would argue 😊

I'm glad Tom pointed out the box size and useless trays. That kind of thing matters a lot to me and why I went with the regular edition of the game over the deluxe. I love the game itself but the deluxe is pointlessly overproduced.

My biggest complaint about the non deluxe version is the buildings, without a physical spot for the leaders it's more complicated to explain how building points work.

I've only played this once, and we got a couple of rules wrong, but I liked it more than Dwellings which is a game I sold (to the same friend who loved it then bought Andromeda's Edge). The changes to combat between shields, diplomacy cards, the targeting mechanic, and the tactical bonus make combat less swingy which I love, while the modules/tracks are much improved from a streamlining perspective. And while I think there's room for preference on fantasy vs sci-fi here, the graphic design and presentation is better for readability and playability.

It exceeded my expectations (being quite mid on dwellings) and I'm excited to play more of it.

This is a fantastic game and already a top 3 for me. The pull back feature is probably my favorite feature in a board game ever. It is the most rewarding thing in the entire game.
I definitely dont use the gametrayz while playing the game. But i do really like them for storage. I dont mind big boxes.

I disagree woth Tom on not liking storage in this. I think it makes setup move and fast. Perhaps their issues with setup is not using the gametrays. Like the developments hold them and their cards. You take the lid off and it’s good to go. Etc. But that’s me.

I love this game. I’m glad Mike likes it more than dwellings. I’ve been anticipating this review a while. Curious where it will rank in his top 100 if dwellings is still so high.

-I am curious to see if Mike (and other reviewers) thinks that both DoE and AE deserve spots in the Top 100, or if one will just "count for both".
-The Trayz are never as good as they are in the rendering, haha, but I don't mind them. What I did mind was when I was sorting the game and the component list in the rulebook looked like an old-school Dice Tower component drop.

Honestly if the player trays had just been black and just had a small flair of colour or let the player pieces show the colour it would have been alot better. And I think they're just a bit oversized that they get in the way of the player board when you lay them over.
