At least 168 skeletons were found in the Windover bog: men, women, and children who were all buried with care. As the indigenous people moved through the area seasonally, they would bury their dead in the pond during late summer and early fall.

An analysis of DNA extracted from the skeletal remains revealed that the people buried at Windover migrated to North America from Asia but do not seem to be related to any living Native American tribes or to any known prehistoric peoples. This leaves one of two possibilities: either their descendants died out, or their population bottle-necked (was reduced sharply) before the genetic markers we find in modern humans evolved.

Watching your videos really made me realize that we are not that different from our predecessors. They laughed like we do. They felt joy, anger, and amusement like we do. We are their extensions into the present. We exist because they existed. Our very genetic code connects us to them. We think of ancient civilizations almost like aliens, disconnected to us in the present but humanity is connected through ages

The conditions of the mud preserved the bodies so well that even brain matter has been preserved. This is s truly significant find and shows the care and best parts of humanity of these ancestors. We will still learn from them.

Born and raised on the peninsula and it breaks my heart how little they teach us about our own home. Thank you for sharing this ❤

Fun facts about the people is there was a tribal member they found with severe skeletal deformations but they were approximately 16. So this tribe member was cared for lovingly for 16 years till they died of natural causes and buried with their peers. Proof that the natives were very emotional and complex cultures.
Also another fun fact there were many examples of cloth/tapestry work by them and were preserved using a very unique method using a substance called parylene if im not wrong.

Seeing that woman buried on her side, curled as in sleep, made me emotional. It feels so tender, so natural, so peaceful. I wish I could be buried that way, the way I lie to sleep. 🕯

I really love your channel. I’ve been a casual watcher for a while. It really puts an emphasis on the personhood and individuality of each story of history. It makes it much easier for us to emphasize with the people of that time and story and be able to more accurately put ourselves in their positions, and imagine it from their perspectives. Not just hearing an account of what happened in a time and place but to a person, or people. It does so much to keep history alive and relevant. I saw one of your videos the other day about the footsteps of a Stone Age-ice age mother and her toddler going in one direction with the fur of a giant sloth in the footsteps and then her return trip alone only hours later. That story has stuck with me. I have kids of my own and I couldn’t imagine being stalked by predators while alone in the desert with a toddler. I couldn’t for one minute imagine what she felt like while walking alone through the same path. It just made them so much more human to me.

When vacationing in the Florida Keys part of a tour was the cemetery. At first I thought it was a little morbid but I learned alot of how they have to bury people so as they're not to wash out to see. Wonder if this is as well then. Great information and Thank You for sharing.

Hello Mae! I LOVE your channel! I’m here daily!! But I wanted you to know, you definitely have a fan club- I’m seeing girls doing the same exact thing as your channel- even down to the 5 seconds you look into the camera before showing the art!! 😂 I know imitation is a form of flattery, but I hate seeing people bite off something you’ve made your own! No one had a channel like yours-before you came along! Yes art channels, etc.. but never how Mae has done it, and her ability to reach and teach the non artsy fartsy (sorry that was from the movie Robots😂) people, and make it feel so..personal. So human! I never cared much about paintings until I came across this channel. I just hope you copyright anything unique to YOU Mae! I just wish those that are inspired by you, put THEIR own work, and twist into their channel, instead of copying another’s, verbatim. Wishing you light and love ms Mae!! ❤❤😊

I used to live near the site. My parents told me about how excited the community was when they first discovered the bog bodies. Amazing to think how many other sites could be out there around us.
