Born in Camagüey, Cuba, of Haitian parents, Mel Semé began his musical career in the Baptist church of his town with his brothers and in the company of older musicians who played a kind of Latin gospel influenced by the missionaries who came often to Cuba from the south of the United States. At an early age he began to worry about the composition and the approach to multiple instruments, among which the guitar, piano and drums stood out.

After graduating from the University of Music of Havana and being part of the Symphony Orchestra of Havana and the Symphony Orchestra of Camagüey, he spent a season in Lichtenstein and Switzerland where he taught percussion and interpretation courses. Then I travel around Europe on tour with different musical projects (Jane Bunnet, David Virelles, Master Fatman, among others) for Germany, Austria, France, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Sweden, and Denmark, country where he lived for a while and where wide his musical knowledge sharing the stage with musicians from the Scandinavian scene. Since 2003 he lives in Barcelona.
