Brief Political History of Ecuador

This video explores the basics of Ecuadorian history and politics to explain why Ecuador had such a tumultuous history in the 19th century, how oil changed its economy, why it needed to dollarize its economy, and how its fragile democracy has fared since 1979. It begins with Juan José Flores, goes through Gabriel García Moreno, Eloy Alfaro and the upheaval of the 1990s and goes all the way to the end of Lenín Moreno's administration.
