I mean LeetCode is on the interview so it doesn’t matter if you think it’s pointless

I believe grinding leetcode broadens ones mind and opens a lot of possibilities for programming efficiently.

Leetcode is also a fun mental activity

I feel the most important thing that being a topper at school or being able to grind leetcode teaches us is how to get back with a book or video series and start learning something completely new, day after day, grinding LC at night and on weekends when everyone else is enjoying... it teaches us the habit of sacrifice.

Some Advance level knowledge of Data Structures is important, i just hate the fact that most tests ask stupidly hard dsa questions that are not even relevant in that job (not talking about interviews, interviews usually ask standard questions)
Knowing dp, trees and other stuff to some level is really good, as you will sometimes require to use these in building stuff and solving low level problems (unless you're doing frontend).

But asking stupidly hard dsa questions that isn't even relevant for the position, has become common and i really hate that ;(

The only thing useless about leet code is the wordings of the problem

not only this, leetcode actually make you think to solve problems, so im pretty sure it changes the way you think, but OfCourse do real projects too

I used to think leetcode was useless. But that was really my ego bubbling up to protect my identity as a programmer. The truth is that if you can't do easy and medium leetcode problems, you are just lazy and need to practice. Doing a couple problems every day isn't hard, it just takes a little bit of discipline (kinda like working out).

Doing LeetCode problems shows something about your general aptitude for, and enthusiasm for doing, algorithmic problem solving. It's about the mindset needed for writing code. Its not just a useless formality for passing interviews.

The best unit of computer science is data structures and algorithms and leetcode helps you get the concepts and apply them in programming.

How would you split your time between LeetCode and actual job-related skills? More time on LeetCode? Less?

The fact is you will never know when some knowledge will be useful so learning will never be a wasting of time

I think it helps practice a certain kind of problem solving. I think it is useful and a lot used on the job.

You can argue a lot of things are useless in this world but they exist for some reasons. I enjoy solving Leetcode questions for fun, especially finding optimal solutions, but I hate doing them under time pressure, so I don't enjoy doing coding tests in interviews.

Absolutely worthless thing in real job practice. Only if you want to work on some remote US company with 10k bucks a month and above. If someone in EU want you to grind leetcode for less then 4k bucks a month just skip it :) If I will grind leetcode once - I'll require payment for this grind, because it's absolutely stupid grind, e.g. like doing dailies in World of Warcraft which doesn't help me at all to make day-to-day tasks efficiently

It’s a meritocratic way to pass a coding interview. Worth doing even though it’s limited in real world development

You’ve said it yourself, it’s mostly memorizing patterns. I’m not exactly sure how much memorizing algo patterns actually helps with day to day coding, but **it’s necessary to get the job**
