Hey brother this your Lumbee friend here u no we had a fire tower right here in maxton nc just like that one an the forest rangers use it back in the 60s an 70s all the way till the early 80s but not in use now we use to have party’s up there back in the 90s lol great video

Pre-Phone comms in old days they used mirror system (Heliograph) and light beams and then hard wired phone lines later on and 2 way radios etc Thanks for sharing, we have these all over the place here in Australia

When I was with forest fire crew there be someone in the tower that would look for a forest fire. When one was spoted they would use a radio and call it in. They would have several maps to use to pinpoint the area plus weather equipment. We have a few of them here in pa. They only get used now and then. The capital building in pa is was also used as a fire tower.

You back in NC? LOL Was in Greenville all evening yesterday. Live about 30 mins from Greenville. Don't forget... waiting on Elvis's family history in New Bern, NC. Hope you have a wonderful time down east with us. Absolutely appreciate all of your hard work and keeping Elvis alive and well sir. I volunteered at the tower in Edward... we had portable radios to call in fires to the forestry officers and used a map and scope to give locations... like the old weather equipment lighthouse keepers had. Is your mom an Elvis fan... bet she could tell us how the teens reacted to ole young Elvis! Stay safe my friend and so good to see your mom on video. Blessings till the next video!
