Just concerned about them being so close to Japan haven't got the best whaling reputation.

You lost me at “white killer whale is the most ferocious carnivorous animal in the ocean”.

The recessive gene theory was not explored entirely here and would make the most sense in my opinion. White orcas sighting in a specific area could be due to breeding of certain orcas that carry white recessive genes. Its possible that the white recessive gene carrier has come of breeding age and its offspring has now been sighted. It's a scientific take as to why more white whales are seen that also occur in other species as well. Possibly wouldn't be as exciting to people if they posted that info.

Looks like he stopped of at Fiji for some tribal ink work. I think he is going for a full dorsal sleeve. He's got that whole lone Orca thing going on, personally I like it, he wears it well.

Quote: :10 - :15 The white killer whale is the most ferocious carnivorous mammal in the ocean.
This pigmentation difference didn't explain anything about why it would be a more ferocious mammal than a regular colored killer whale.
So I call BS attention grabbing drama, hypopigmentation doesn't change behavior traits other than differing survival skills

What a beautiful sight, I’ve always loved and respected the intelligence and ability of the Orca. 💕🐬💕🐬💕

You mean the Japanese didn’t spear them and eat them? Amazing. I spent 4 years in Yokosuka Japan in the Navy and believe me, these people eat everything in the ocean to a reckless degree.

As somebody with the MC1R gene I know what it's like not to be able to blend in in a crowd.

never good to start with fallacious statements like "white killer whale is the most ferocious carnivorous animal in the ocean", while tracking a beluga onscreen. editing anyone? screen writing / editing, anyone?

I wonder if the nuclear core meltdown in Japan has something to do with those genes acting like that?

It could be that these two white orcas are brother and sister. They are both young animals and given the last time sighted neither are of breeding age (15 years +). This means their parents hold a gene that turns the skin white, and partnering up makes it dominate so bam, white orca. Also, there is no fear of inbreeding. It's been long proven and studies and DNA testing and observations that orcas do not breed within their own family group (pod). Differing Pods will come together and the males will travel off to other pods to mate with females, often going back to the same female (or females) of their choosing before returning to their home pod. As these two are also in the same pod, that also points to them being siblings.

They're becoming white because they're blending in with Beluga's so they can hunt both them and Polar Bears while also being able to sneak up on Narwhals easier. Truly is incredible.

The narrator states that researchers have met 5-8 white killer whales in the western pacific. I certainly hope the white killer whales the researchers have met are more friendly than the ones I've met. Because the one's I've met won't even speak to me.
