mm I have an idea i know how The Heart of Darkness could possibly eat, he could be using those spike tentacles as proboscises at the end of each tentacle that could suck out the innards of the animal just like The Assassin Bug does to its prey with its proboscis or human then excretes them out using some sort of sphincter inside the heart until there's nothing left but bone or he could have the proboscises on the inside of each tentacle so that way it's absorbing the blood from the animal from different parts of the body all at one time and still excrete them via a sphincter.
