Grigori Rasputin (1869-1916) was a Russian mystic and self-proclaimed holy man who gained considerable influence in the court of Tsar Nicholas II. Rasputin was known for his alleged healing abilities and became particularly close to Tsarina Alexandra, advising her on political matters. His sway over the royal family caused widespread concern, leading to his assassination by aristocrats in 1916, who feared his impact on Russian politics.
