I met Jerry Reed in 1988. Got my mom his autograph. She was so happy. He was great.

The humor in this song is a perfect indication of Jerry's personality, as was his character in Smokey and the Bandit. And yes, he was known as a top notch guitar player. I think there's one video with him, Glen Campbell and Roy Clark together. That's 3 of the greatest players ever.

There was nothing this man couldn't do... masterful singer, guitar picker, songwriter (my favs are this one and "When You're Hot You're Hot" and "Lord Mr. Ford" MUST HEARS) He sang "East Bound and Down" for the Smokey & the Bandit movies, I saw some others post that. But didn't see anyone tell you, he also played Cletus Snow, Burt Reynolds' "sidekick" in the movies, he drove the 18 Wheeler with Fred the adorable basset hound. He was a great actor too! <3

Jerry Reed was a singer, songwriter, guitarist & actor who appeared in more than a dozen films. His most famous was in "Smokey & The Bandit" in 1977. He also sang the theme song from that movie "East Bound & Down". He had a lot of hit songs such as "Guitar Man", "U.S. Male", "A Thing Called Love", "Alabama Wild Man", "When You're Hot, You're Hot", "Ko-Ko Joe", "Lord, Mr. Ford", "The Bird", "She Got The Goldmine (I Got The Shaft)" etc.

I loved Jerry Reed! He was such an incredible, talented performer - there was nothing he couldn't do, and an appearance of his was always fun. You can't go wrong with any of his songs, but some favorites are "When You're Hot You're Hot" and "She Got The Goldmine, I Got The Shaft".
