Back when Opel was part of GM you could find some Opel cars rebadged as Buick and sold in the US. (Buick Regal, Cascada, Encore, Verano). All pretty much Opels with a Buick badge. Skoda is Czech and has a very long tradition making all sorts of machinery, incl. Cars and heavy industrial stuff. The car division was bought by VW and the cars share their platsforms with VW (and Seat). I guess VW did not consider it a good investment to establish the brand in the US Market. Although I believe the Skoda SUV Models might do well. Not much point bringing the compacts or station wagons over though.

Americans do not know their American Companies.
General Motors bought Opel in 1929 (80%) and got 100% ownership in 1931.
They sold it in 2009.
So it was a GM brand for almost 80 years.

It is normal that you never heard about Opel in the states. In England they named it Vauxhoul and in the states GM sells their own ones.

The Polo and Golf can both have 3 or 5 doors.
The opening for the trunk is a door too, when it has a window in it.

Škoda is from Czechia. The company was established in 1895 named "Laurin & Klement" as a bicycle and motorcycle manufacturer and they started making cars in 1905. It has the name "Škoda" since 1925.

Škoda is a car manufacturer in the Czech republic. It belongs to the VW company. And is one of the 10+ brand of Volkswagen they sell cars under.
Basically for every VW passenger car there is a similar car from Skoda. Internally theyeven use common parts, like the engines, gear boxes or electronics.
Similar there is a Spanish brand called Seat. They do the same thing.
In general you get VW type cars from Skoda or Sear for a much lower price (and in some aspects reduced feature set). (And Audi for a higher price.)

What does that mean, classic cars? These cars are more modern than the american cars, which are more reminiscent of construction machines.

The fact that you don't know anything about Skoda is a real gap in our knowledge. They built tanks in World War II and are one of the most successful car manufacturers in Europe.

Dann gucke dir mal den Kanal vom Ami "IWrocker" an. Der liebt inzwischen Škoda ("American's FIRST Time Driving a Skoda!!"). Opel kommt noch. 😁Schönen Urlaub noch ...

Hi Sean,
Germany is station wagon country,
simply because the modern station wagon design is the most sexy one for a car body, full stop ;)
VW Polo was sold under the name VW Fox in the US not sure if they still do.
Škoda is quality manufacturing from the Czech republic for more than 100 years. Yes, the Czech's are not only on top when it comes to beer.. Be it cars, arms and even tanks and fighter jets.
That's why the Führer invaded them early on.
The brand MINI belongs to BMW and is all that's left from BMW's British adventure 2 or 3 decades ago.
However the Mini is and always was considered a girl's car.
just saying, no bad intentions.

Car history can be complicated, sometimes! :)
OPEL ist german - known as Vauxhall in the UK -, but became part of GM (General Motors) in the US, belongs now to PSA Peugeot Citroen in France... or something like that! :) *complicated
