😊😮😮i worked for goodwill for 16 years. I hate to let people know, but the homeless shelters, churches, and disaster relief places, would bring donations to goodwill, because they dont have anywhere to store it. We got tons of donations to these places. Shes right about everything she says. If you hear bad things, its usually from employees who were fired for not doing their jobs.

The bad thing about Goodwill is that they sometimes toss things that are actually valuable to people, but the workers don't realize it. I'm on the autism spectrum, and my special interest for all of my life has been teddy bears. I love the ones from the 80s and 90s and some into the 2000s, but after that the quality went down and the texture changed, and I'm not crazy about those, and neither are most bear people. I just found out my local Goodwill has a policy that any time an old bear would come through sorting, they would get automatically chucked, even if they were in good condition, because the lady didn't know arctophiles were a thing and she thought that no kid would want an old bear. Trust me, if you allow a kid to feel an old bear, they would take that one any day over a new one. Just put them out for a few days and see if anyone buys them before you chuck them like an old McDonald's bag.

I work at goodwill and it’s a great place to work. Everyone is real nice. Though it’s not without its pros and cons. The issue of donations being the big one.
When figuring out what is sellable, you more or less have to constantly ask yourself “is this something I’d pay money for?” As in is this in good enough condition to sell to a customer? Would I buy this?
I can’t begin to tell you how many people donate things that are in such bad condition that it might as well be chucked. Like coffee makers for example. A coffee maker has to look almost mint condition, it can’t have rust or coffee stains in it. Yes I know it’s a coffee maker, it’s going to have coffee stains. BUT when a costumer sees that, they don’t want to buy it, and we don’t wash items out before shelving it. We don’t have the time or the resources to clean everything we get. And the employees don’t really want to do that.
One thing I find stupid is the fact that we salvage Bernie babies. The way it was explained to me is that there are little beans inside the plushies and it’s a choking hazard for kids and that’s why we can’t sell them. So for all of you guys who own beanie babies, just sell them, on e bay or craigslist or literally anywhere. Beanie babies are supposed to be worth money and goodwill is wasting the opportunity. Just get your moneys worth and don’t donate beanie babies to goodwill.

I like donating to salvation army, because they give clothes to poor people for free and they operate food pantries and soup kitchens. I know people in my community who were suffering through a hard time and good real, direct helps from Salvation Army. I know they're religious, but they do good work and I know no one gets rich off of working at that non profit.

Does Goodwill ever through anything out? I have found a lot of Trash at GoodWill on the self for sale. I go to several Goodwills a week and amazed at what they think will sell. I have found calendars that have been used and if there is personnel information in these calendars I turn them in to the front desk. I also found three Halloween paper napkins. Who buys three paper napkins. I often find two of the same item and they have different prices on them. I am confused

😮😊😊😮also if we put stuff out to sell on the floor that has a stain, or missing pieces or older, most of it just sits there and doesn't sell. Even at a lower price, we would get complaints about putting stuff out there that wasnt perfect.

The donation warriors aren't living your life or caring for your home so too bad for them lol. Home and self care should be top priority imo.

I quit giving to Goodwill many years ago. I used to send my patients there for training because they had a very good program to train mental patient handicapped What is going on people however they’ve turned into just a retail giant. Apparently it gets all of their invent inventory for free. I recently went in one of the stores and looked to see what they had-and Says everything Had quadruple from the last time I went a year or so ago

I do know not all non profits are honest. You can make many things appear the way you want them to, at least until you get investigated. For example your books say you're paying out 23.00 dollars an hour for staff but yet we discover they volunteered.

😊also, as with any company they have to raise their prices. Not all of their employees are volunteers really there are hardely any volunteers anymore. Goodwill has to pay everyone. They have to pay rent on their buildings and u ty ilities, and equiptment its not all free. Also, at the store i worked at, if employees were caught hiding stuff for themselves or family members, or pricing stuff lower for themselves or family members they would be fired. We couldnt have discounts, because of public opinions, if we were caught taking anything at all, even a piece of paper that we used to write on if it was donated, , , , we were fired.

“You can look up what goodwill pays there employees it’s required to be public” What I have hear is a lie believe me on my word not them… go look it up, and does not show you because she does not know how to but we should just trust her…

Don't donate to Goodwill!! Donate to another thrift store instead. Here's why. Most thrift stores fill a need in our society by selling donated items to the public at bargain prices and fulfill a need for people who need things but can't afford to pay retail store prices for them. Goodwill doesn't do this. Unless you go to Goodwill when they are having a sale, you may as well go to Walmart and buy the items you need and get new merchandise for about the same prices

And for God's sake stop putting books and toys in those bins because they just go into a dumpster for the most part stuffed animals babies clothes they sell by weight so they don't want anything that is the to light so it goes in the rubbish

I refuse to donate to goodwill cause your prices are ungodly expensive. It should be affordable for impoverished people not gentrified for the upper class that want to save money. I go there occasionally looking for toys and often find a 10$ Walmart toy in very used condition for 6.99.😐. I’m glad you give jobs to the disabled but dang u would sell soooo much more if it cheaper. If buy a cart full of u did not feel good willl was ripping me off
