The fact that this video was uploaded three days ago yet I have never needed to know or wanted to know how to play until right now simply horrifies me to my core

My dad taught me how to play marbles back in the early 60s. he use to play when he was a boy in the early 40s. He still had a large marble collection he passed to me. One of the interesting rules was, the Player got to keep all of thee marbles, they knocked out of the circle. Good Players had the largest collection of marbles

Wow. Great tutorial. I used to play this game when I was a kid and I was just thinking of it and thinking that I did not remember the rules, and decided to search YouTube for directions. And you explained them very well. I really appreciate it. Now to go and buy marbles and play it with my wife. Thanks a bunch. YouTube is just great. Take care. 😊

I remember almost everyone in 5th grade having their own marble set and wagering their best marbles. We played kind of differently since we dug a hole in the ground and had to shoot our marble into the hole. When someone did, that was called having “the power” which allowed the player to attempt hitting the opposing player’s marble three times in order to win. Me and my friends only played casually since we didn’t want to end up losing the only good marbles we had.

I used to play marbles as a kid but never understood what to do. I just flicked and let my friend worry about collecting the marbles and telling me what to do next.. and now 20 some years later after watching this video I finally understand the game lol😅

Back in the early 60's I remember marbles, yo-yos and bikes consumed most of my summer time daily activities. Nowadays it seems to have been replaced with the cell phone.

I'm 30 and when I was like 8 in 2000 I played marbles, crazzy bones, real beyblades, jacks, pogs, and there was a few others that we played that would play for keeps and cause fights on playground lol

My friends and I would play differently. We would make a small hole in the dirt and you could play up to as many players as you like and you could do free for all or teams. We would then take turns and everyone had to “clear” the hole meaning you had to get into the hole before you can shoot anyone. Once you clear the hole you would then have to hit your opponent twice/three times in a row (depending on what yall agree on) but each hit has to create distance so no soft hits. Once you got out, your marble would go into the hole and the winner would get all of the marbles. or you can play for individual keeps, so if someone were to get another player out they would just keep their marble, but the first way was always better reward for winner.

38 here when I was a kid it was pogs, Jack's and very seldom marbles. We played for keeps. Whenever there was a construction site where old houses were we'd find peopels shooters and mibs. They were nowhere near the near perfect quality of the marbles we had they were defective and hand made but I enjoyed finding them.. wed always say "somebody lost there marbles" Whenever we'd find one. Keep your eyes peeled.

We played marbles differently. It was a player vs player game. Someone would challenge you and than we would agree on which marble we would play each other with. The 1st player would throw their marble and the 2nd player would try to get their marble in position. The player who hit the others marble first won the match and got to keep the other players marble. If you played regular marble vs bolder you would have the hit the bolder 3 times to win the match.

What happens to the mibs if both them AND your marble end up outside the circle? Does the player still keep them and their turn ends or are they forfeit or do they go to the other team?

Grew up in Europe I played marbles outside with our neighborhood boys and girls. I played marble until age 11 😅 as a girl. I was looked at as a weirdo lol.

Is there where the quote “losing your marbles” comes from?
