To explain decentralized nervous systems my entomology professor told the story of how him and his colleagues were studying mantis mating and saw one male get his head bitten off while mating only to run off, find another female, mate and get another chunk taken out of him. He was still able to move enough to try to find another female to mate with, though he never got the chance since the 3rd female finished him off.

Some insects are really like something out of some bizarre science fiction horror rather than real life.

Male mantis: "Not even a decapitated head could pull me out!"

That mantis footage is awesome, I knew they could do that but seeing it in action is something else.

Better pick up some flowers on the way home so the wife doesn't bite my head off...

So saying, " he's hung like a barnacle" is actually a compliment.

I just can’t believe y’all didn’t do Anglerfish. The way they mate is actually something out of a horror movie frl

The worm part is so different, so alien from typical mammal stuff... Fascinating!

It’s amazing how Newts change their body! It’s unrecognizable when they turn aquatic

I love how that one mantis was casually cleaning its antenna while already being halfway eaten. xD

The praying mantis thumbnail really shows "until death do us part" on a violent path!

I think Johnny Bravo said it best: "I'm sickened, but curious."

Imagine for a second what you think an alien from another planet might look like.
Now look at a barnacle and realise how pedestrian your imagination is.
There are some incredibly weird things residing on our doorstep, the ocean doubly so.
"From so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved."

I’m a 7th grader who doesn’t know much about animals, but your videos have taught me some amazing facts and crazy things I never knew. Thanks for helping me learn!
