Projectile Motion

Objective : Investigate the effect of the angle of incline on the range, time in the air and

horizontal velocity of a projectile launched horizontally.

Materials : Meter stick, masking tape, inclined ramp, books, steel ball or marble, carbon

paper, sheets of clean bond paper, stopwatch

Procedure :

1. Set-up the materials as shown below

2. Measure the height of the table where the setup is placed. This will be .
3. Let the steel ball or marble roll down the ramp. Measure the time it will
take for the steel ball to land from the point when it was released on the
ramp. This will be the t.
4. Measure the horizontal distance from the base of the table to where the
steel ball or marble landed. This will be the .
5. Compute the horizontal velocity using the equation
6. Repeat step 3-5 twice. Label the horizontal distance, respectively.
7. Add one more book in the setup. This will increase the angle of inclination.
8. Repeat step 3 – 7.
9. Record all your observation in tables A, B and C. respectively.
10. Compute the average range, time in the air and horizontal velocity of the
steel ball or marble.
11. For proof of documentation, Take a video while performing the activity.
