SpaceX's futuristic Starship has finally aced a touchdown after two previous tries ended in massive fireballs.

The full-scale prototype soared more than six miles Wednesday after lifting off from the southern tip of Texas.

It descended horizontally and then flipped upright just in time to land.

This time, the shiny bullet-shaped rocketship remained intact, prompting a SpaceX commentator to declare, "third time's a charm."

SpaceX founder Elon Musk plans to use Starships to send people to the moon and Mars. Each of these last three test flights lasted 6 1/2 minutes.

As a retired fire investigator, I was cringing at the sight of the small fire when it landed. Knowing that it had a good amount of LOX and Methane on board, it was a time bomb. I totally expected the explosion, just glad that nobody was injured. I was also a little disappointed that the large stream that was putting water on it was turned down right before it blew. I think that was a big mistake.

Wow, who's the animator in this Pixar film? The man's a genius! It looks so real. Right up there with clutch cargo.

My brain still finds it hard to process that what I'm seeing here is "real". Incredible!

The landing was great... The sitting still? Way too hard a maneuver.

Looked like a pretty hard landing with a small bounce. Wonder if this played a roll in it blowing up?

It’s amazing to watch such precision—straight out of what I saw in cartoons as a child! But it would have been cooler to see the explosion that happened right after as well :(

There are many ways to disassemble a starship. The current method is by explosion.

Hell yah right in my backyard; wonderful show. The country skyline, cows and animals going off then the presence of awe in the air .

not showing the blow up part seems a little mischievous, especially with that title

lol it looks like cgi but its not, they are streaming live just like theirs thousands of cameras looking at it. the cgi can't render as its happening. if they were to cgi the landing it would like very different from the cameras on other angles hence its not cgi, its just this big robotic arm with this had camera at 60 fps moving at the speed and rate of the rocket like a movie camera just streamed live. we're used to seeing flaws like the drone camera from far away, its blurry and not perfect making us think that's real because we're used to it!!

Is this after the one that landed successfully but then blew up about 10 seconds later, or is this that landing??
