When is it emotional abuse when someone says something to you that you don’t like or hurts you in some way? How can you tell emotional abuse from someone just joking with you? Emotional abuse is seen in toxic relationships but is oftentimes hard to notice. It can be small jabs at you and the abuser telling you that you are too sensitive or can’t take a joke when it is said. How emotional abuse affects you can be through physical symptoms as well as the development of anxiety and depression. When words are abusive they hurt. But if you say something the abuser denies their actions and acts like you are the problem. Emotional abuse is common in narcissistic relationship because this is how the narcissist maintains control. Gaslighting, which is often done by the narcissist, is a form of emotional abuse. When words hurt your feelings and the narcissist doesn’t care, this can be invalidating and a sign of possible emotional abuse. The narcissist uses silent treatment, rage, and many other ways to be abusive. In this video I discuss when the narcissist says you should “let me be me” when you call them out and how this can be a sign of emotional abuse.

I'm 61, in therepy, life long depression. My mom and two sisters were nasty. My therapist said I e been 'trauma bonded' . I'm still having trouble getting over my life long abuse. I'm remembering things that upset me more. I do know NOW, I am a better person than they are. I don't speak toy sisters, I feel "obligated" to speak to my mom bcuz she is 92, and I'm not an asshole but I do have love/hate feelings towards my mother. I wish to be happy. Something I haven't been.
