The actor playing Sato had cancer and didn't tell anyone so the movie could be filmed as planned. He was an honorable man and actor 😥😥😥

It's a genuine loss that the remarkable Japanese actors, Yusaku Matsuda and Ken Takakura, have passed away. May they rest in peace forever.

35 years ago, I sat down to watch Black Rain for the very first time, and it left a lasting impression that hasn’t faded with time. Directed by Ridley Scott, this movie wasn’t just a gripping crime thriller—it was a powerful bridge between cultures, with unforgettable performances that elevated it to greatness.

One of the shining stars of the film was the legendary Ken Takakura, whose quiet strength and magnetic presence brought the character of Masahiro Matsumoto to life. Takakura’s ability to convey emotion with just a glance, his unwavering honor, and his dedication to his craft made him one of the greatest actors of the century.

Even after all these years, Black Rain remains a favorite—proof that truly great art transcends time. Ken Takakura is greatly missed, but his legacy lives on in his films and the profound impact he had on audiences around the world.

What’s a movie that has stayed with you for decades? Let’s celebrate the stories and actors who’ve shaped our love for cinema.

This movie had one of the most satisfying endings I've seen in an 80's film and the score embodied that ending almost perfectly. Beautiful and Powerful.

Douglas thumbs up and smile are so genuine we could say those guys were TRUE friends and not just professional actors at work. Mr. Takakura was also a legend in acting in this movie. A true talent to be remembered and celebrated.

Saw this in theater in NYC in the 80's. Unforgettable scene, redemption, forgiveness, acceptance by both Douglas and Ken-san's character. Such great characters! Hard to believe they were acting, its that good. Can't remake this - impossible. RIP Ken-san. :(
