Maybe I'm taking this too seriously, but I think more emphasis should've been placed on the fact that the 'mother' allowed some dude to physically abuse her son in front of her. Marital issues and cheating are unfortunate, but there's nothing more disgusting and low than a parent allowing someone to abuse their child.
