ASRock X79 Professional i7 3960X 4.8GHz OC Tutorial + UEFI Demo

Just had a chance to play with the overclocking settings on the new LGA 2011 ASRock X79 Fatal1ty Professional motherboard along with the Intel Core i7 3960X Extreme Edition Sandy Bridge-E processor, so I decided to overclock it up to 4.8GHz and give you an idea of what the UEFI setup looks like.

*****WARNING*****
RUNNING YOUR CPU AT THIS VOLTAGE 24/7 WILL PROBABLY KILL IT...
*****WARNING*****

Sorry for the terrible fan noise in the audio. That's what happens when 3x 140mm fans on a Phanteks cooler are running at 100% trying to cool a 3960X going at 4.8GHz. On that note, I apologize for the cruddy video quality either.

@ItsFish2k On the bench I've got the Logitech G500 + CM QuickFire Rapid. On the main I've got the Corsair M60/K60.

@progste Actually it's a Phanteks. Check desc box for bench details. =D

@Comiekiller lol yeah... I think max Intel recommended is like 1.52v. Hopefully I can do some tweaking on this to bring it lower. I'll do an OC tutorial for 24/7 OC settings though. It'll probably be 4.6GHz or so. Not sure if anybody cares since not a lot of people actually have the CPU.

I am upgrading to the new 2011 socket! Its required for my video work! Intergarion of the Production Premium package with Adobe using dynamic link between Premiere and AE put quite a bit of stall on my current i7 system. Time to upgrade: 3930K + X79 Saberbooth!

Is this MOBO better than Rampage IV Extreme on OCing i7 2600k around 4.8~5.0 ?
Also what are the best water cooling for these MOBOs?

Keeping your VRM protection enabled then you shouldn't have to worry about frying your cpu?

@custompcreview 4.8ghz is where everyone is hitting a brick wall with this processor, do you have a 3930k handy to see it its faster?

according to Tom Logan and other reviewers have a physic overclock limt at 4.8 GHz with very few exceptions so I don't think you're doing anything wrong
just for curiosity, what cooler are you using?

Sweet, I just ordered the same Motherboard.
The CPU you are using is a notch too expensive for me, though.
What would be better to go with for me (for gaming). The 3930K set @ 3.2 GHz or the cheaper 3820 @ 3.6 GHz? Some people tell me clock speed is more important for gaming than additional cores/strings at this point, but then others tell me that a few games already utilize 6 cores when available, and that the 3930K will be more future proof for this reason. Ofc. I will be OC'ing with either.

If you read reviews on other resellers. lots of returns due to people O/Cing voltages over 1.5. Lots of comments about over volting controllers will fry on dye voltage controller.

All depends what you want to do really. If you need stable high overclock speeds for long periods then my choice would be 1)Extreme11, 2)RIVE (which is still one of the best out there)or Champion 3)Professional. If you want just a gaming rig then options 1 and 2 would be a bit of an overkill. In short, you can overclock all of them and play any game. But if your intention is mainly to play games, I would go with a cheaper X79 board and use extra cash on ram etc as there isnt a bad X79 board.
