How to fix a broken key in a Euro cylinder lock

A broken key in a euro cylinder lock can be a bit daunting at first but in many cases it is an easy fix. If you can remove the old broken key you can get another key cut, or if you can’t get the key out you can remove the euro cylinder for a like for like replacement. If you can’t remove the key or the euro cylinder this video also shows how to secure the door using a length of suitable timber. There are of course times when you have no choice but to call for a locksmith, but in most cases this video will help.

Good to see you didn't just drill the lock. So many locksmiths that are called out just drill peoples locks. Mainly because they know they can then make more money replacing the lock. Good locksmiths will pick them.

THANK YOU SO MUCH, you Legend! I turned it the lock using the snapped end I had as you demonstrated, and that allowed me to remove the bit stuck inside with the point of a Stanley knife and some pliers! 👍

Great video! I was able to remove a euro lock that someone had jammed the wrong key into. I was able to actuate the cam with a straight screwdriver (the lock was only a 60mm deep one, much shorter than the one in your video). Many thanks!

For info, the only thing that worked was lining up both sides of the lock and pushing a 1.5 Allen key through.

Nice one for posting this had to do the snap option on our lock and was surprised how easy it broke all in all took less than ten minutes to remove and fit new lock

Another great "how to" vid Chez. Hadn't thought of drilling a hole int he wood, I'd just tied it off in the past. Mind you, you could probably just leave the door open for a week here! I've managed to rescue the broken bit out of locks a couple of times using a dental probe. The sort with a straight piece with a little right angled bend on the end. The proper ones are strong. A pair of forceps can be useful as well, they're often sold as disgorgers for fishing . In some cases you can get them in to grip the thin sides of the key. Depends on the lock / key combination and how tight the key is though I guess.

Thanks for the tips I've had to use all sorts of measures to get doors locked temporarily! Also those ABS locks are fantastic but would be a pain if they snapped in the lock!
