About a decade ago a medical diagram was found that was drawn by the doctor who treated him directly after the incident, docter Felix Rey. The drawing shows in detail exactly how the entire ear was cut off. Only a small part of the lobe remained attached to his head.... Very disturbing actually when you think about it!!!!

Gaugin was an absolute jerk. Absolute. He was a horrible person who left his wife and many children to lead his life of debauchery. Van Gogh was truly at his mercy and when he slashed his ear - he actually did not cut off the whole ear. Van Gogh was truly an innocent who tapped the eye of the hurricane with his paintings.

This whole sequence of events sounds like a fever dream or just a straight up nightmare. They both seem incredibly unstable. It’s sad that such talented artists didn’t have access to the mental health resources that could have helped them develop better relationships with themselves and others.
