Hey kallie, I have the same plant, they're very finicky to begin with so don't feel bad if it perishes. But the yellowing near the roots actually looks like overwatering, which is much more common among plant owners than underwatering. So unless you guys literally forget to water it for a month, I would cut back on the h2o (do about 2 cups 2x a week-the soil should never be damp) and try moving it into a more sunny area. If it's too big for the pot, try repotting it!

SO cute! I mean if you think about it, it's basically like sharing a 'dorm' room. It's the same aspect. And I'm sure if they need space someone can go sleep on the couch bed right? lol

Brown usually = underwatered, yellow usually = overwatered, and ferns like that often need more light. I'd suggest moving it closer to the window for a week or two, and placing the whole pot in a larger dish of water (so it can drink from the roots, but isn't drowning). It might perk back up!
