Sonic in Mario land. perfect combo, what we need is a real game were Sonic and Mario partner up to save the world, as Bowser and Robotnic have teamed up to take over the world. That would be an epic game. This was so fun to watch, loved the idea taken over each others minds.

The rings being coins does kinda make some sense in this context. It's Mario's mind, and all he knows is coins. Sonic sees the round, golden shinies and assumes they're rings, because that's what he would recognize them as.
