Why I'm a Solopreneur (unpopular opinion) Extended Cut

This is the minimally edited, podcast-style version of my video "Why I'm a Solopreneur (unpopular opinion)" You can catch the shorter and snappier version of the video here:

FREE Guide: Start a Private Practice in Counseling:

I've been intrigued lately by how frequently I see various business experts and commentators dissuade people from being a solopreneur. So as an entrepreneur with no employees, I thought I'd share some of my thoughts about why I'm a solopreneur. Because frankly, it's been a great fit for me (even if it's not the best fit for everyone).

Thank you for sharing this!! There is definitely an influx of private practice owners pushing the idea that you MUST have a group practice/team to be successful. I am neurodivergent, so I knew before starting my practice that my goal was to be a solo practice owner. This video was so validating for me. Thank you🥹💕

I agree with the financial piece. I think the financial literacy is a huge issue in the US anyways and people just start having everything go into one bank account. Emphasize that that’s just messy for tax planning at the end of the year it’s also more so dangerous because people just see that they got paid $100 and think that that’s the full amount that they actually get and never actually take out 30%.

Thank you for sharing your extended thoughts! I so appreciate your compassionate embrace of all things that make you who you are (including the ones that are not so socially pleasant to talk about!) It inspires me to do a little more of that embrace as I pave my own journey of solo/entrepreneurship :)

Isn't she just amazing? I am working to become an LCSW and to open my own private practice. I've watched you for years and I have learned so much from you. Thank you for putting your content out here for us to see.

You're not alone. I also enjoy being a solopreneur in my freelance writing business. I communicate with my client through email. I hire editor to help me. The rest is I'm on my own writing for my blog n client 🎉 I can imagine this struckture can bring me to 6 figure or even 7 figure biz with a bit adjustment along the way. Now, I love my life more than ever 🎉

Thank you for sharing this. I have no interest in "growing my business" and it's nice to hear that I don't *have* to constantly be thinking about growing into more than just me.

Also, to add on a comment at the end of the video, I agree with your assertions on solopreneur and feel like the conversation for therapists especially is about being able to check in with yourself about how you feel in certain roles. What's funny is I wrote a blogpost back in 2021 (I think) that was very similar to the stuff you've said here.

I do feel like the title of the article you read was probably clickbait in a way, getting you to read through it with a controversial title, but I also feel like you addressed the polarizing pieces well. Again, thank you for this topic. I really did enjoy it. :)

Is this the title that you would use for yourself if you only did private practice and did not have online content or passive income?

I own my own practice do not have any employees. I basically do everything myself except I outsource for tax taxes. I do not have passive income sources I only provide direct service as a clinical social worker.
I to score as an E and an I
on the Myers brig.
