Episode 16. Prior to joining the Mexican Mafia in prison Joe Morgan's early years are profiled with supporting historical documentation.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
(Mathew 6:19-21)

As a young Chicano correctional officer, , I worked the S.H.U. at Tehachapi(4-B from always addressed me as "Mijo" and was always respectful of the staff. We were aware of who and what he was and was capable of, and never forgot it, but whichever unit he was housed in was always the quietest unit! NOBODY got out of hand or caused trouble lest they bring extra attention and searches.

Joe was a prime candidate to become Eme. Remember, he was in his late 30s- early 40s when he became made, making him much older than the regular candidates. By that time, he was a murderer, had escaped several times, robbed banks. He also had strong connections to LA Cosa Nostra, and Mexican Drug groups by himself without needing a gang. Even do is from Ford Mara. His crime history goes back to before BGF, EME, NF or AB. The Eme comes to you not the other way around. Guys like this are Outlaws on their own, highly inteligent and choose to live outside the life of a civilian.

Haha, when 16 yr old Morgan escaped by jumping out of the police transport vehicle, he shouted, "I'll be seeing you...". + If you read the caption on the newspaper clipping at 6:09, describing how they recaptured him by shooting his leg, he's quoted saying, "This is a fine way to start life.". Hahaha. You can see why people liked him - Muy fucking chingon BTW, maybe you guys w/prison experience can explain this to me - a sentenc eof "5 years to life" seems like a pretty big difference (I'd take the 5 years, thank you!). How does that work? Do you go up for review at 5 yrs and they decide then if you spend the rest of your days?
