The Jewellery Editor goes behind the scenes at the Couture Show Las Vegas and Maria Doulton joins the judging panel for the much anticipated Design Awards.
Each year the Couture Show Las Vegas brings together some 250 skilled and innovative jewellers from around the world to showcase their creations at the luxurious Wynn Resort. The awards ceremony is one of the highlights of the show and, with over 100 contenders in 12 different categories, the judges spend hours perusing the entries separately before coming together over breakfast to choose the winners.
This year’s winners included Hearts on Fire for Best in Haute Couture, Silvia Furmanovich for Best in Innovative and Plevé for Best in Diamonds Above $20,000. Best in Diamonds Below $20,000 went to Reho, Christian Tse won the Best in Platinum prize and Majoral went home with the Best in Silver award.
Newcomer Spinelli Kilcollin walked away with two awards, one for Newcomer and the other for Best in Gold, while Australian pearl specialist Autore took the prize for Best in Pearls. Waving the British flag, Tomasz Donocik won the Couture Design Award for Coloured Gemstone Below $20,000.
