I believe the reason why it didn't work initially is because when CircuitPython is in the REPL prompt, it doesn't run any code. You can "soft reset" CircuitPython using CTRL-D on Windows/Linux, which should exit the REPL, and run the main code.

You have to restart the board after the program is copied to the pi board.
