I thought this video would be overrun by puns, but Scott showed some good control

The way those look inside is neat. There all mechanics, no electronics. They have tuning forks that emit a high frequency tone that is picked up by certain TV's

I remember, back in the 70's-80's, sitting on the couch watching tv. I could just rattle my belt buckle and go through the channels in order. Drove mom crazy.

I was a TV repairman in those days. I really never encountered a problem with the "ultrasonic xylophone" remote clickers. Very reliable.

I had a friend that collected those. They each have a specific tone or chime that it had for the TV to respond to. No batteries for those remotes. Pretty interesting.

I remember when the FIRST remotes were large switch type remote, with a MECHANICAL tuner on the TV. When it tuned, a motor actually spun the channel selector. Just two buttons. Up or down.

My grandparents called the remotes clickers! Unlocked memory. I miss them terribly 😢

We had a TV with a remote control in the 80s. One day, I was in the lounge and I had some coins in my hand and I was shaking them - then the TV changed channels! I was freaked out at first, then I told my Dad about it and he said that the TV remote sends out high-frequency sound to change the channel and the coins must have made sound of the same high frequency. We also found that we could change the channel just by whistling at it, it did make us all laugh!

I just saw a video on this type of control. It's a sonic device. That metallic click is a tube the button strikes. The TV has a sound sensor or microphone that responds to the sound. No batteries, no RF signal. I was my family's clicker back in the day. We didn't have a remote for a long time and our TV was black and white . UHF channels were the best.

My dad once lost the clicker out in a blizzard, 30 degrees below zero! He looked for it knowing the odds of him finding it were remote in the extreme.

Fascinating, you found a audio frequency clicker too.
These work by striking a metal pole inside, set to a frequency much like a tuning fork.
Got a cherry deal my dude

My dad once lost the remote when I was a kid, and we looked for hours for it....he left it in the freezer. 😂

Omg, we had that exact remote when I was a kid. My brother and sister used to throw it at each other.

I remember reading an interview by the Beatles meeting Elvis back in early to mid 60s and they commented that he had a remote control for his TV. I didn’t even know it was such a thing back then because we didn’t get one til maybe early 80s.

I had one of those. Inside is a couple of metal bars. The click would strike the bar, the bar would make a tuning-fork sort of ding, and the TV would hear that and do its thing. It was so cool.

Excellent dad joke. I have my grandmother's late 60's remote. It hiss-whistles instead of clicking.
