A cow is lifted by helicopter out of the alps with a bad hoof. It would have been too painful for it to walk down the mountain to the vet, so they airlifted it down instead. Swiss cows are some of the best treated in the world. Most are dairy cows and are kept on small farms with herds of only one or two dozen. They have names instead of numbers. I wish I knew the name of this one.

We watched this from the mountain hikers hut where we were staying, called the Rotstockhütte, which is part of a farm. We had just arrived and were inside making our beds when we heard a helicopter coming so we went outside, just in time to see this.

This is a beautiful part of Switzerland and you can hike from hut to hut for days or weeks, eating hearty Swiss food prepared for you at the huts.
