Kind of a pop, country, and blues mix. This was one of her best, I think. She was the female singer of the decade, one of the top 4 single hit artists, only behind Elvis, the Beatles, and Ray Charles. I was a teen during the 60s when most of hits were at their peak. She was inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Country Music Hall. Somehow, we never give recognition to an artist that she deserved. She was truly one of the top five pop artists of all times. But, that was man's world in those days!

My late father adored this woman, and rightly so.... I grew up listening to her and the likes of John Prine, the Animals, the Chi Lites, the list is endless 🤔. I played this song for my 11 yr old son today and told him of how his grandfather felt for her. I'm always exposing my kids to old music, alot of Sam Cooke and CCR. He sat and listened to the first minute or so quietly, and started singing along when he could. The song had barely ended and he played it again. Within a ten minutes he knew it by heart, pitch perfect, even Brenda's lil fall offs and raspy bits. If I've accomplished nothing else in this world, my children are open minded, compassionate souls who love good music. Now if I can just get them all through college and standing tall for This whole adulting business is scary, exciting, and the hardest thing I've ever loved.😑

Brenda, I've loved you always since I was a little boy in 1960. This is one of the top songs I keep coming back to. It's superb! One of the jewels in your crown. And it's ALWAYS been your song.
