NCAA Adopts New Policy for Transgender Athletes Following Controversy Over Penn Swimmer

The NCAA has adopted a sport-by-sport approach for transgender athletes, bringing the organization in line with the U.S. and International Olympic Committees. The ruling follows controversy over Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer at Penn who is currently breaking records competing with women after spending her first three years at the school competing with men before transitioning.

Lia can swim on the mens team as he did previously. If he can't keep up with other males now, that's too bad. He made a choice to transition so he may have to sacrifice participation in competitive swimming. Female swimmers certainly should not have to take the hit.

Why not just keep it simple. All athletes should be required to compete within their birth gender, regardless of later choices, and create a separate transgender category. That seems fair.

All for his/her wants the years upon years of women fighting for equality in gaining the right to work, get an education and women's sports. It isn't about what ones choice of their gender is, it's about women's rights. If men's sports were changed so a transgender could play equally it wouldn't happen. I don't have that answer to give fairness to greener change athletes but your personal life changes aren't everyone else's issue. These women have trained unlimited hours upon hours only to have that hard work stomped in the ground. Enough is enough

If they wanted equality, they would compete with their own genders. At the end of the day, you're NOT talking about their mental, emotional, psychological, differences, their PHYSICAL abilities....
