In this year 5 maths lesson uk we will be exploring expansion method of multiplication. We will be exploring the expanded method of multiplication for a 4 digit number multiplied by a 2 digit number.

The expanded method of multiplication is the transition method from 'grid method' to the 'short column method'

It is a very important stage as it enables you to understand the process and the reasoning behind each section of the process.
